Ok... I know I will get ANOTHER call from friends at DHS or FBI or "other" ... BUT I think I may have a solution (at least for a novel) for the "Occupy" dissenters and alike that are fed up with corporatist meddling and private interest manipulation that is poisoning our system... for decades now.
How about a 28th Amendment to the Constitution?... wherein a publicly funded website will be created to display the statistical analysis and simulation results for all proposed legislation. This site will also include the ability to gather secure public opinion in the form of weighted agree/disagree votes on said legislation and then aggregate them into virtual representatives which must be included in the legislative process as a 3rd legislative body. House, Senate, and Virtuals.
This would effectively add a Pure Democratic model on top of our Representative model without the chaos of dismantling our current system in order to fix it. The weighting of individual agree/disagree votes can be based on one's civic activities and social responsibility. Perhaps everyone starts with 1 vote but can increase its weight by performing activities that benefit society directly. You can't buy ultimate power (as seen daily all around us), but can earn some increase with effort. Like; 2X multiplier for each year you accurately pay taxes on time, 2X multiplier for each year of staying out of jail, 5X multiplier for starting a business, 10X multiplier for starting a business with over 100 employees, 10X multiplier for getting a college education, 15X multiplier for volunteering 100hrs in your community, etc.
A bonus government purity level would be achieved with the simultaneous implementation of the ole campaign finance restrictions as well.
Think about
this... When an amoral medium, such as money, is used to broker power
that directs a nation... What do you expect to get, but a corrupt
corporatist state? But make that power earn its right to direct a
nation, as a large group of interested yet uncompensated
politician/citizens (much like the Unix community), and you will have
your Utopia. Eventually and surely.
